PARKING TIPS:

Elm St., which we're on, is the hardest street in Davis Square to park on, so don't be surprised or discouraged if you don't find a space right away. A very short cruise takes you past numerous possibilities to Dover St. and Meacham Rd., which are usually the easiest. From Elm St., take the first left onto Grove St., which has small lots on both sides (if using one of them be sure to take a metered space because the others are reserved and may subject you to towing). If there's nothing there, take a left onto Highland Av., the one-way back into the Square. There are more often meters available there than on Elm St. If not, choose the left lane, continue past the turn-around for Elm St., and turn left at the light onto Dover St. It's very likely there'll be meters available there. If not, take a left onto Orchard St. and another left onto Day St., which has both meters and a metered lot.

A variant on this cruise, if you don't see available meters ahead of you on Dover St., is to take an immediate right from Dover onto Meacham Rd., which is even a little more likely to have available meters. If not, take a left onto Orchard St. and another onto Day St., as above.

Summer St., in the block beyond the light at Cutter Av., is also not unpromising.

Finally, in the part of Cambridge we adjoin, Massachusetts Av. is remarkably uncrowded, the only part of that well-known street that is. During the day it'd be surprising not to find an available meter there, and it's only a three-block walk on either Chester or Day St. From Elm St., turn right on Chester St. and right again at the end of the street. There'll almost certainly be available meters.
