STORE CREDIT:
Any cash offer we make can be taken instead in store credit at 150% of the cash amount. The credit is good for books and any other merchandise we actually own, but many of our non-book items are consignments on which we get only a small commission and can't afford the credit premium, so please ask before assuming you can use the credit on anything other than books.
Usually we write a credit slip for which you are responsible. The credit is good indefinitely and in fact can at any time be turned back into its cash equivalent (two-thirds of its then-current balance). If it's a very large credit (some people have balances of hundreds of dollars) and you feel more comfortable having us be responsible for safeguarding the information, we can keep the record on our books instead.
If you do have one of our credit slips, please remember that it's a bearer document, and that it has cash and not only credit value to any bearer. In other words, keep it in your wallet. Treat it like cash.
When you use the credit, please let our cashier know before the transaction that you have it. If the transaction is erroneously rung into the register, it won't be possible to avoid inconveniencing you while we void and correct it (believe it or not, the cashier will almost certainly mind this more than you will).
FINALLY, after all this, if you have books to sell, please call first: (617) 229-5641.
